6PR listeners have raised concerns about the link between highway light outages and rising copper wire theft.

Press PLAY to hear James Pinnington discuss the disturbing level of copper wire theft

James Pinnington, director of Main Roads’ Metropolitan Region, told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that approximately 1200 kilometres of copper cable has been stolen from Main Roads since 2019, putting both the perpetrators and road users at significant risk.

“These are large-scale operations; they’re not somebody just taking a chance and going out looking to steal some cable these people are quite planned and organised”, he said.
