Six million people have had their personal information stolen in the recent Qantas cyber attack, with reports already emerging of customers falling victim to scams.

Professor Dali Kaafer, Executive Director of the Cyber Security Hub at Macquarie University, told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Mick that hackers were able to access names, email addresses, phone numbers, birthdays, and frequent flyer numbers, all of which significantly increase the chances of individuals being targeted.

“I think we will see very, very soon things like scam attacks and identity theft type of issues. I think customers of Qantas will be at the risk of receiving an increased volume of phishing emails or SMS messages really trying to impersonate Qantas,” he said.
