A Perth oceanographer and entrepreneur is turning seaweed into a biodegradable and climate-positive plastic.

Dr Julia Reisser spoke to 6PR Afternoons host Julie-Anne Sprague about her recent nomination as a finalist for the 2024 Australian Museum Eureka Prize.

“What we’re doing is fermenting seaweed into a natural material that mimics plastic so when you look at it it looks like plastic but at the same time at the end of its life you can compost it,” Dr Reisser said.
