6PR interview: Mark McGowan backs mandates, masks and Quigley

Premier Mark McGowan says the government and health authorities will likely determine if WA had reached its Omicron peak in coming days, while continuing to back mask wearing in workplaces.
“At this point in time they’re very, very important to stopping the spread of infection and ensuring people can continue to go to work,” he told Steve Mills, filling in for 6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker on Friday morning.
“Mask wearing was one of the big three things that have worked: borders to keep it out, vaccines to reduce the transmission and severity of the virus and masks to reduce the transmission.
“They’re the three main things that have worked over the course of the last two years.”
Mr McGowan lashed out at conservative activist group Advance Australia after it parked a truck carrying a billboard of the Chinese president Xi Jinping voting for Labor outside his family home.
The Premier also revealed several of his staff had contracted COVID, and was questioned on other issues, including:
- WA’s current close contact rules
- Monitoring our Omicron peak during the next week
- Federal Labor’s support for WA’s GST share
- The credentials of Attorney-General John Quigley
