New research by the University of Sydney has revealed 40 per cent of 25 to 35-year-olds will have to call on the “bank of mum and dad” to buy their first home.

University of Sydney senior lecturer of urbanism in the School of Architecture, Design and Planning Dr Laurence Troy told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons family wealth shouldn’t determine if a person can afford a home.

“It will have a big impact on inequality,” said Dr Troy.

“The value of living at home… is really significant.”
