12 hospital staff in isolation after positive man visits hospital

WA has recorded two new cases of COVID-19, with 12 hospital emergency department staff forced to isolate for two weeks after one affected man visited a hospital.
The man in his sixties visited Fiona Stanley Hospital with symptoms unrelated to COVID, he was subsequently tested, and returned a positive result.
6PR reporter Jake Battrick says there is no known link between the man and any other cases in WA.
“He has been infectious in the community, so contact tracers are frantically trying to figure out what potential exposure sites are linked to this man,” he told Oliver Peterson.
The second case is an unvaccinated man in his fifties who has been in quarantine. It’s believed the man is linked to the Cockburn Omicron cluster.
With 12 hospital staff being wiped out after the case visited hospital, WA Health Minister, Amber-Jade Sanderson, says changes to close contacts could be made soon.
“It’s challenging and with large numbers of staff currently having to isolate in hospitals and health care settings, that will be very challenging for the sector. We’re looking at what the requirements are and definitions for close contacts,” she said.
