Workers fight for the right to ‘disconnect’ outside of work

Simon Beaumont

Workers deserve the right to disconnect from their workplace and focus on activities separate from daily stresses, one of the biggest unions in the country argues.

Australian Services Union Assistant Branch Secretary Jill Hugo told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the majority of workers find it difficult to say no to work requests outside of normal hours.

“Nearly a quarter of those surveyed had some form of fear of being disciplined if they didn’t respond to calls or emails,” Ms Hugo said.

“It’s definitely not the same for everyone, and that’s why we’ve surveyed a range of workers across many different industries.”
