Georgia Prideaux, a Kalgoorlie born unsung hero and the Deputy Chair of the Prisoners Review Board in WA, spoke to Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings about her inspiring life story.

She has dedicated her life to speaking out and advocating for the rights of victims and survivors of interpersonal violence, as at the age of 16 she was violently abused by an older man.

Georgia later became the first person in WA to gain a lifetime restraining order against her offender who raped and almost killed her.

“I grew up with domestic violence – my offender also had a rough childhood and we sort of clicked, he was older and when I moved in with him, at first it was good.

“The first time he hit me, I was leaving, I was not going to live with that but I was held in that house for quite a few months – I left pregnant with a cracked cheekbone, bent wrist and tail bone so I vowed not to go back,” Georgia told Gary.

A year later, the same offender broke into her home, armed with a double barrel shot gun and 50 rounds of ammunition, where he then decided to bury Georgia a grave.

“To people in a similar situation, I am hopeful for them, I have a lot of hope and faith in them and I believe when you’re in it, it’s hard to get out but I had to make a decision – you can’t chose to stay in that environment, it is not a life.”
