In July 2022, the President at Community Kindergartens Association Western Australia Jo Matthewson started a petition calling on the WA Legislative Council to examine the lengthy wait time for health services for children aged between zero and eight.

Today, Minister for Heath and Mental Health Amber-Jade Sanderson announced the state government will spend $39 million to expand the Child Development Service.

Ms Matthewson told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live, “It’s a great announcement…They can’t wait, and they have been waiting and they’re waiting even longer. I feel like it going to be catch-up on catch-up and that’s a really scary thought.”

“What a great result for the parents, the parents who have fought so hard in the community for their children,” Ms Matthewson said.
