Gareth Parker has weighed in on the weekend furore at the rugby union Test between the Wallabies and England at the SCG on Saturday night.

A patron at the stadium, who happens to work in sales for Nine Radio – owner of Radio 6PR – faces a five-year ban from Rugby Australia over an incident where he called Tasmanian-born England coach Eddie Jones a traitor at half time and after the game.

“I reckon this is way over the top, surely you can go to a footy game and shout out things … not racist things, you shouldn’t threaten people,” Parker said on 6PR Breakfast.

“But I don’t think it’s a problem to call an Australian working for another country a ‘traitor’.”

Jones told the Sydney Morning Herald one of the men who abused him had privately emailed to apologise.

6PR sports broadcaster Tania Armstrong said fans should stick to supporting their team at sports events.

“I’m all for supporting your team and not abusing people,” she told Parker on Breakfast.
