An unprecedented inheritance boom is on the horizon for Millennials as their baby boomer parents grow older.

A report released by the Productivity Commission said soaring house prices, lower fertility rates and increased superannuation sizes are combining to greatly increase the size of inheritances.

But Co-Founder and Director at The Demographics Group Simon Kuestenmacher said millennials will have to wait for it.

“That won’t be happening at scale for another two decades,” he said on 6PR Breakfast.

“This sounds a bit dark or cynical here, but we need to measure when this wealth transfer is actually happening.

“We do need to look at when baby boomer women … when they will start dying, and the peak dying for baby boomer women will be in 2041.

“They will only inherit their parent’s wealth … in two decades, when they are in their 50s themselves.”
