Millions of Australians will have cheaper medications after the government reduced PBS-listed medication from January one.

Patients will pay no more than $30 for PBS-listed medication, a saving of up to $12.50 per script.

National President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia Professor Trent Twomey told 6PR Mornings these reductions will give more people access to medication.

“This goes a long way to returning the principle of universal access,” said Professor Twomey.

“No one should go without essential medications.”

However, CEO of Provocate Troy Bilsborough told 6PR Mornings despite the reduction, prescriptions for concession card holders have had their highest increase in 20 years.
