‘The deterrents aren’t strong enough’: Victim’s family pleads for more to be done to prevent one-punch attacks
The Pat Cronin Foundation reached out to 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont, concerned after hearing the news that Brodie Jake Dewar – who pleaded not guilty to the killing of Labor identity Tim Picton in an alleged one-punch attack – has avoided being immediately imprisoned over a separate one-punch related charge.

Matt Cronin, who co-founded the Pat Cronin Foundation after his son Pat was struck and killed by a single strike to the back of his head, told Beaumont that a stronger message needs to be sent to the young people of Australia that this is just not acceptable behaviour, calling for the laws to be strengthened and made consistent nationwide.
“We need to put stronger deterrents in place. We’ve got to set examples, use the law where we can to make sure that people do understand the consequences,” he said.
