The AFL has put forward the possibility of holding a Wildcard Round to shake up the top eight before Finals.

Based off a similar program in the NBA, the Wildcard Weekend would be during the  pre-Finals bye weekend, allowing teams outside the top eight an opportunity to get into the elimination rounds.

Nine News sports reporter Mark Readings agreed with Karl and Millsy on 6PR Breakfast the idea would contradict the competition leading into the Finals.

“The ability of teams to play finals off of basically winning half of the games that they play in is rewarding mediocrity,” Mr Readings said.
