Local sporting clubs were back in action last month after COVID restrictions shut down winter sports, but not everyone has returned to their sport of choice.

Registrations across community sports are down 29 per cent compared to the same time last year according to SportWest.

Financial worries during these uncertain times is the main reason one in three participants haven’t returned to their sport.

“We’re seeing that affordability is one of the great challenges, so there’s still people  who have been hit and that’s a disappointing, or sad, part of what this reflects but we know the clubs will be only too willing to embrace any of their former members and new members into the clubs,” Rob Thompson, SportWest Chief Executive, told 6PR Breakfast.
