Smith backs ODI’s popularity

Australian captain Steve Smith has backed the popularity of one-day cricket ahead of his team’s series against India.

Beginning on Tuesday in Perth, Australia will play India in five One Day Internationals amid the backdrop of the booming Big Bash League in Australia.

India still has the ability to attract large television audiences for the 50-over game, which in turn creates the advertising revenue that holds up the middle of cricket’s three formats.

‘The BBL is obviously doing really well and a lot of people are watching that form of the game,’ Smith said on 6PR’s Sports Today.

‘I think one-day cricket is still alive and well, and hopefully we can get some big crowds out to the games we play this summer.’
