“He’s got a bit of a stress-related injury that we need to manage.”

Asked if this was a new issue, Simpson revealed that the club has only recently learnt the specifics of the injury.

“He’s been carrying something around. We thought he just had a knock to his ankle.”

“We did catch it early. He’s been stiff and sore and now we know the reason why.”

Forward Jamie Cripps will also be a day-by-day case as his wife prepares to give birth. Cripps didn’t fly with the team today but will instead head to Melbourne tomorrow.
