A senior advisor to the Department of Communities and Professor of Social Work has spoken out, saying that he is ashamed of how the Department of Communities has responded to the woman who leaked the report.

Andrew Turnell spoke to Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings after a report was released revealing racism at the Department of Communities had been buried for three years

Turnell said the Department should be taking more responsibility for the report and the revelations it made.

“We tend when we try and deal with this to play pin the tail on the donkey. We tend to want to say, ‘it’s her fault, it’s his fault,'” he said.

“We don’t go. Hang on a minute. How did this come about? How was it that this woman became so frustrated, so distressed?”
