The one-of-a-kind odyssey of a much-loved Black Kite has met with a fairly depressing result, as the avian will not be coming home.

Earlier we reported on the story of Millie, who stowed away on a cruise ship to Bali during a thunderstorm.

Native Animal Rescue Broome’s Debra Mitchell said the group were pretty upset about the decision, and that the Department of Agriculture were “unapproachable” in regards to working out a solution.

“We feel like we were treated as a low priority because we just have a bird in a cage,” Ms Mitchell said.

The Department of Agriculture released a statement which says attempting to return Millie to Australia would be a biosecurity risk, and  the bird would need to be relocated in Bali.
