The WA Road Safety Commissioner has said there’s a growing concern about people altering personal e-scooters and other eRideables to go above the speed limit.

National Road Safety Week runs from the 15th of May until the 22nd.

With multiple eRideable incidents across WA, the Road Safety Commission has begun the ‘Make every eRide safe’ campaign to educate Western Australians on the rules in place.

Adrian Warner, WA Road Safety Commissioner, joined Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings to cover the dangers of e-scooters and said there’s a worrying factor in the way people can modify their eRideables.

“We do know that there are people who just don’t believe that the rules are good,” he said.

“They want to be able to effectively ride where they want, what they want, wherever they want.”

The Commissioner went on to say that they are aware of these cases and are prepared to confiscate the rideables from drivers if required.

“There are people sharing tips on how to remove the speed limiters,” he explained.

“If you draw the attention of police and you’ve got one of these vehicles, then you risk them being seized and good luck getting that back.”
