Fisheries Minister Jackie Jarvis has defended the WA government’s controversial fishing ban, which came into effect on January 1.

The WA fishing community are reeling from the change, but Ms Jarvis has stated she “doesn’t take any joy” in the decision.

“I said I would always do what was the best thing for WA, and I genuinely believe this is the best decision,” she told Russell Collett.

The chair of the group ‘Fish for All’, which set was set up in light of the controversial legislation, then had right of reply a day later.

“We’re asking for an independent review of this science, so that we can get something that we can trust and stand behind,” Phil Clark said on Perth Live.
