The 28th annual run of one of the world’s more unique races took place over the weekend, with Revive Raider being hailed the fastest bug at the Karratha Cockroach Cup.

Karratha business owner Simone McLaughlin entered the invertebrate in the races against 60 other competitors, and didn’t think she had too much of a chance of winning, which precluded the rather disgusting tradition that caps off the last race.

“There were plenty of other cockroaches who looked like they could take the cake,” Ms McLaughlin told Beauy on 6PR Mornings.

“Although when it started winning all the races, my excitement turned to dread.”
