Price’s bottom line on the Voice Referendum

Northern Territory Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price wants to be clear: she supports recognition, but she does not support the Federal Government’s idea of recognition.
Ms Price appeared on 6PR Mornings to discuss her personal reasoning behind disagreeing with the terms of the upcoming referendum, and told Gary Adshead she supported a more practical and less bureaucratic attempt at including Indigenous input into government.
“As far as this debate toward the referendum, a divide has been created as a result, I believe,” Ms Price said.
“I’m a product of reconciliation given my circumstances, and I believe that as a country we need to reinstate our values. Those values were created by all of us coming together.”

Senator Price said she felt a lot of the meaning behind the Voice to Parliament was redundant, since it was the way society and politics were already progressing.
“The 1967 referendum – that’s what showed our nation just how much support and respect Australians have for Indigenous Australians,” She said.
“Indigenous Australians are recognised the same as everybody else; they have the same educational outcomes. That’s what it’s about.”
