The Premier has backed the idea of bringing more big events to Perth following the successful bid to host the opening game of the Socceroos 2018 world cup campaign.

The announcement was made on Monday by Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop confirming the opening match for WC2018 qualifying will be held in Perth.

Mr Gallop said that the WA government ‘made them an offer that was too good to ignore’

Talking to 6PR following the announcement Premier Colin Barnett said the appetite for big events in Perth was there especially after the success of the weekends ‘Giants’ event which attracted over 1.4 million people to the city.

Talking to Karl Langdon and Kym Hagdorn Mr Barnett said that events like the V8 Supercars wouldn’t be considered because of the cost to modify streets to accommodate the cars.
