Premier announces quarantine-free travel with Queensland, rules out Christmas reunion for other Eastern states

Premier Mark McGowan has announced Queensland will be reclassified from ‘low risk’ to ‘very low risk’ later this week, meaning people arriving to WA from the state will not be required to complete 14 days of self quarantine.
However, the Premier remained firm that the border would be shut to other Eastern states until next year.
The change will take affect at 12:01am on Friday morning.
Arrivals will still be required to complete a G2G pass and undertake a health screening on arrival.
Queensland will join South Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory as ‘very low risk’ jurisdictions.
“This is good news for WA and for the thousands of people from those states and territories who can safely travel into WA without being required to quarantine,” the Premier said.
“I want to stress again, this decision has been based on updated health advice.
“I also want to be very clear, that if the health advice changes, then we will not hesitate to strengthen border controls, if that’s what the Chief Health Officers advises is required to protect the people of Western Australia.”
The border controls with New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT remain in place.
