As two of Australia’s largest franchise businesses hit struggle street, questions are being raised about the sustainability of a franchise model.

Retail Food Group has announced up to 200 store closures across the country, and Caltex has confirmed it’s stepping away from being a franchise business.

Professor Jenny Buchan, from the University of NSW Business School, told Mornings with Gareth Parker, franchisees can often feel powerless when times are tough.
