Vale Drew Morphett
6PR is shocked and saddened by the death of commentator Drew Morphett.
Drew celebrated his 69th birthday on Tuesday and died at his family home overnight. Our thoughts go out to the Morphett family and his friends. He was due to call the Dockers final game of the season against Essendon in Melbourne on Sunday before travelling to Europe his wife Kaz.
Karl Langdon, Kim Hagdorn and Brad Hardie pay tribute to a great mate on Saturday morning.
Drew spent spent a majority of his career commentating at the ABC and channel 7 where he hosted the popular football program The Winners.
After retiring from the ABC at the end of 2015 he joined 6PR to call the Eagles and Dockers away games with Brad Hardie, Adam Papalia and Shane McInnes.
Tributes have come from far and wide as the football community expresses its sadness.

Sad to hear we lost @drewmorphett last night. As a kid, listening to Drew call cycling on ABC’s Flashing Pedals filled me with inspiration. pic.twitter.com/g6N4YUEYEM

Vale Drew Morphett.
I am devastated. A great friend, mentor and childhood hero.
And one of Australia’s best ever sports broadcasters. https://t.co/2HFtcazFba— Stephen Quartermain (@Quartermain10) August 26, 2017
We’ve lost a friend and a very special sports caller. Drew Morphett …onya mate, ever a cheeky smile, laughter and another glass of red.
