The Health Minister says he’ll stand by front line hospital staff

After a spate of incidents, unions are calling on the Government to act immediately on violence in our hospitals to protect staff who encounter it on a daily basis. Most recently a nurse was stabbed at  Royal Perth Hospital on Sunday.

Health Minister Roger Cook spoke to Oliver Peterson today to say that he’s looking closely at the union’s recommendations.

“One assault is too many in my view.

“So we’re going to be taking action to make sure we provide better support to front line staff in our hospitals”

In addition to this, junior doctors have said in a recent AMA survey that Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital is the worst in Perth.

The Minister says this hospital is one they want to focus on in terms of morale and health and well being.
