Push for GP’s to give more info on referrals
The Australian Medical Association says a proposal to present patients with a range of specialist fees when making a referral would see consultation times blow out.
The proposal – form the nation’s Chief Medical officer – would see GPs put forward a list of options so people can compare costs before receiving a final referral.
But AMA President Dr Tony Bartone says doctors are already under pressure when preparing referrals.
