Premier has serious concerns over coronavirus impact on WA

The Premier has confirmed WA could be facing a significant hit to our budget – as a result of the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus.

Mark McGowan will meet with industry leaders in education, agriculture, tourism and mining today to discuss the economic implications with China virtually cut off from the rest of the world.

He’s told Gareth Parker on Mornings – iron ore prices have already taken a big hit over the past two weeks – down 13 percent – or around $12.

Around 260 Australians are currently on their way to WA after leaving Wuhan onboard an emergency evacuation flight.

The Qantas flight will land at Learmonth airbase near Exmouth before passengers are moved onto smaller aircraft to head to Christmas Island to spend 14 days in isolation.

The death toll from the virus is now more than 360 – with 15,000 confirmed cases.
