A West Aussie took out The Voice crown last night, the loop artist was a controversial contestant from the start but Sam Perry still won the TV singing contest.

Perry would loop sounds made with his voice to create songs and then sing over the top, leading to one of the judges calling him a DJ instead of a singer.

The proud Perth muso told 6PR Breakfast when he attended Ocean Reef High School he used to skip some English or Maths classes and sneak into the music room.
