Love of reading returning to kids

Millsy & Karl

One-third of Aussie kids own fewer than 11 books according to some new research and local bookshops want to increase book ownership and improve literacy.

But a literacy expert says kids love reading and creating their own stories as well. Louise Park told 6PR Breakfast that at a workshop she was running the kids were excited to get involved.

“The hands were up and they were just begging. They had so many great ideas, it’s just fantastic to see that inspiration.”

A pre-primary teacher also called in to say they have a “book swap shop” at their school where kids are encourage to bring along books they no longer need and swap them with other students.
