Huawei’s rail network communications deal on shaky ground

Simon Beaumont

WA Transport minister Rita Saffioti has conceded she doesn’t know if Chinese telco Hauwei will still be able to deliver its 136-million-dollar rail contract.

Huawei is now facing a string of criminal charges in the US, and security concerns remain about Chinese government influence within the company, both in Australia and overseas.

Ms Saffioti joined Mornings with Gareth Parker to explain the current situation.

The minister also touched on a new planning scheme for Nedlands, and a campaign to get more people to take public transport.
