How to become an AFL Coach

Sam Mitchell is retiring from playing, but will take on a coaching role at the West Coast Eagles next season while there’s plenty of whispers of head coaches moving on around the AFL after this season.

But there are processes and qualifications needed to take on the roles, Peter Vlahos asks the CEO of the AFL Coaches Association what it takes to become an AFL coach.

“What I’ve hear about Sam Mitchell in particular is that he’s had his eyes on this for a long while and he’s a very ambitious bloke and he’s ticking a lot of the boxes in readiness for what sounds like a very good coaching career. But it’ll have little or nothing to do with the fact that he was a really good footballer,” Mark Brayshaw told Peter Vlahos.
