History of the Charities: Wheelchairs for Kids

In this new segment on “Remember When” we feature a history of a Charity. In this segment we look at the history of “Wheelchairs for Kids”.

Their history began back in 1996 when the idea of making wheelchairs for impoverished, disabled children in under resourced countries came from a member of the Surfers Sunrise Rotary Club in Queensland, Australia. In 1998, Rotary Club of Scarborough adopted the concept and the project began in Western Australia as “Wheelchairs for Kids”. They have now donated over 45,500 Wheelchairs around the World and in Australia with a volunteer work force that has grown to  more than 100, mainly being retired people.

Brother Olly Pickett, the Workshop Manager joined us on “Remember When”.
