Drum lines offer a false sense of security: Sea Shepherd

Michael Genovese

The State Government will trial smart-drum lines – as it looks to mitigate the risk of shark attacks.

The Government has previously vowed to wait until a trial of the technology was completed in New South Wales – but has now moved on the issue.

A 12 month trial will take place at Gracetown in the south-west where two attacks forced the cancellation of the Margaret River Pro earlier this year.

Sea Shepherd’s shark campaigner Jonathan Clark says the organisation supports the use of drum lines as a scientific method but are concerned they offer a false sense of security.
