City of Gosnells councillor residing in Melbourne

A City of Gosnells councillor has defended their decision to remain a representative of the council – despite living in Melbourne.

Julie Jones has been living in Melbourne and working as a real estate agent since late last year and then flying back to Perth to attend council meetings.

Councillor Jones told Gareth Parker COVID-19 restrictions has prevented her from returning to Perth in recent months and the city has no issues with her carrying out her job remotely.

Gosnells Mayor David Goode says Cr Jones has been able to perform her duties as councillor while living in Melbourne and he hopes the situation can resolve itself soon.

Cr Jones has said that if a resolution can’t be found and the situation becomes untenable she’ll resign and give up the $30,000 salary.
