Ceiling warning letter triggers talkback tidal wave

Gary Adshead

Today on Mornings Gareth Parker brought listeners a letter which had been sent to a homeowner which certainly raised some eyebrows.

The letter, sent to a listener whose house was built in 2005, suggests a ceiling inspection to combat against ‘ceiling failures across WA’.

The letter triggered dozens of calls to the program of Perth residents who had had significant issues with their ceilings.

The letter reads:

Dear Owner / Occupier

On behalf of our team, we trust you are enjoying living in your home built by APG Homes.

We are making contact to share important information regarding the ongoing performance of the ceilings in your home.

It has come to our attention that there has been an increase in the number of ceiling failures across WA homes. Many of these failures which include sagging ceilings and collapsed ceilings are preventable.

In most instances, ceiling failures are the result of incorrect access to and use of the roof space along with installations such as air-conditioning units, lighting, ceiling fans and television cable services, just to mention a few.

We would like to bring to your attention that it is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain the safety of the ceiling and roof space in their home. We share this information to make you aware of any potential risks and suggest ongoing inspections of your ceilings to minimise these risks.

The letter goes on to outline the contact details of a company which can arrange free of charge ceiling inspections.

If you’ve had issues with your ceiling you’d like to raise with Gareth Parker on the Mornings email: mornings@6pr.com.au
