Seniors groups say an independent body should set future deeming rates rather than the federal government.

The rate was reduced slightly over the weekend meaning some pensioners will be up to one-thousand-dollars better off.

Paul Versteege from the Combined Pensioners and Superannuants Association told Gareth Parker it remains unclear how the new rates were set.
