Barnaby Joyce is stepping down as Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister as his party investigates an allegation of sexual harassment.

The Deputy Prime Minister has announced he’ll move to the backbench, while he defends fresh allegations.

Acting Leader of the Nationals Bridget McKenzie says there has been no fiercer advocate for regional families and she wishes Mr Joyce the best in the future.
