Australian women are having children later than ever while the number of teenagers having babies is continuing to fall.

Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show a little over 309,000 babies were born last year, making it the lowest fertility rate since 2001.

McCrindle Research’s Mark McCrindle says there are a few factors driving women to have children later.
