Are the ANZACs who fought in Gallipoli just “killers”?

Is ANZAC Day a diminishing cliche? A scoop by Andrew Burrell in The Australian has revealed recordings from a lecturer in Australian history­ at Murdoch Uni, Dean Aszkie­lowicz, saying the Gallipoli ANZACs are killers and the people who complete the yearly pilgrimage ANZAC Cove are just drunks.

Member for Canning and former SAS commander Andrew Hastie spoke to Oliver Peterson to defend ANZAC Day.

“The day is about remembering Australians who have given their lives in the service of our country.

“It is right and proper we remember their sacrifice and we honour it. That is what ANZAC Day means to me.”
