Perth newlyweds ditch the limo… for the train

With the average cost of a wedding creeping up to the $40,000, it’s no surprise some couples are thinking outside the box to put a unique stamp on their special day.

That’s what Brad and Kiri Serls did when selecting their mode of transport to their wedding reception. They soon settled on a ‘logical’ choice – the train.

Dressed to the nines, the newly minted husband and wife turned heads as they boarded the Transperth service last weekend.

‘We thought why fork out all that extra money for a limo when we’re going to have photos taken in [Northbridge] – let’s catch the train,’Mr Serls said.

‘We actually had two girls sitting at the front of the train and they couldn’t stop saying ‘oh, this is the best thing ever’… it was really lovely.

‘A lot of people were like ‘wow, this is making my day!”

The couple said the rest of the bridal party followed suit and travelled between locations using ‘an array of Ubers, taxis and family friends’.

‘We met up at The Bird in Northbridge and we had 15 to 20 minutes with our family and had a few drinks. We actually had our photos taken in and around the Cultural Centre and around the State Theatre,’ Mr Serls said.

‘I think I lot of wedding couples seem to flock to the blue boatshed and King Street and stuff like that. My wife and I come from quite an artistic background, so we thought we’d like to keep things local and arty.’

The newlyweds are currently honeymooning in regional WA.
