NSW Senator to lead inquiry into ABC complaints handling procedure

The nation’s public broadcaster will be the subject of a senate inquiry into the way complaints are handled.
It will be led by New South Wales Senator Andrew Bragg, who says it will be a “surgical review” and will only look into complaints handling, not the broad scope of the ABC.
The move has been criticised by the head of the ABC Ita Buttrose who called for the inquiry to be terminated or suspended.
But Senator Bragg told Liam Bartlett there are too many groups that feel their complaints aren’t taken seriously.
“There are veteran groups, there are multicultural groups, there are individuals that are aggrieved, and I think it’s very important that the Senate response to these people and provide a platform for them to air their issues with the ABC,” he said.
“I mean the ABC solution here is to deal with its own review, but I think the Senate has better powers here to deal with these issues.”
