WA’s purpose-built quarantine facility will now be built at Bullsbrook.

The federal government says the initial plan to construct the quarantine hub in Jandakot came with additional hurdles, as it was subject to the Airports Act.

The newly chosen site is a few kilometres from the Pearce Air Force Base.

Concerns have been raised about the area in the past, as toxic PFAS chemicals have been detected there, which can lead to a range of health issues.

Assistant Defence Minister Andrew Hastie said the Commonwealth is working with the state government to get things rolling.

“The Department on Finance has done independent feasibility study of the use of the Bullsbrook location, which includes looking at environmental, historical, cultural and waste management factors

“At this stage I understand it is good to go.

Global construction company Multiplex has been selected to deliver the 1000 bed facility.
