New hospital, same old problems

A leaked email to staff shows Fiona Stanley Hospital was ‘grid-locked’ yesterday morning and unable to accept more patients.

The memo was issued at 9am on Tuesday, with staff told there were no available beds and that patients would be discharged to make room.

The head of the WA branch of the Australian Medical Association, Dr Michael Gannon, has conceded Fiona Stanley Hospital is not coping and there are a number of issues at the new hospital which need to be addressed.

While the WA Director General of Health, Dr David Russel-Weisz says the ‘bed-status black’ was about ensuring staff were aware bed capacity had been reached and there is nothing to hide.

Both spoke to Gary Adshead on the 6PR Morning Show.
