NASA has revealed that astronauts will cultivate and bring back lunar-grown plants to Earth for the first time during the Artemis III mission.

Chief Investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plants for Space at La Trobe University Professor Matthew Lewsey toldd Chrissy Morrissy on 6PR Afternoons, “The goal is to figure out how plants grow in this controlled, contained environment in space. So in future when segments are formed on the moon and eventually mars, it will provide data on how to crops so we can feed those people.”

“If we can figure out how to grow plants on the moon, we can grow them in very extreme environments on earth,” Professor Lewsey said.
