6PR Mornings presenter Liam Bartlett has paid tribute to much-loved ABC radio presenter Russell Woolf after he died overnight on Monday aged 57.

“I did want to say how sorry we all are, here at 6PR to hear of the sudden and unexpected passing of a good friend and colleague in Russell Woolf from the ABC,” he said.

“A terrific bloke, lovely guy, Russell, always put a smile on your face, a fantastic broadcaster, it had been a pleasure to spend some years at the ABC with Russell in his company.

“His passing has really shocked all those close to him, and certainly the media industry here in Western Australia.”

Mr Woolf’s colleague, Geoff Hutchison, shared the news on-air this morning, saying it comes as a huge shock.

The broadcaster presented ABC’s Perth’s Breakfast program, after starting at the the network in 1997.

He was also worked as an MC, guest speaker and voiceover artist.

Premier Mark McGowan also paid tribute to the broadcaster in a tweet this morning, saying he was “deeply saddened to hear of the passing of local media legend, Russell Woolf.”

Former colleagues and friends of Russell also called into pay their tributes.

6PR Afternoons contributor Russell Collett knew ‘Woolfy’ for 28 years.

“I know what he was like as a bloke, and just know he wouldn’t want people sitting around and being terribly sad about this,” he said.

“I think they’d want to remember what a treasure he was to be in their lives, and what a wonderful person he was.”
