Mother’s plea to share her daughter’s name in hopes of combating suicide

The mother of a 13-year-old girl who ended her own life the decision by a coroner not to allow her 13-year-old daughter’s full name to be revealed during an inquest into her suicide is like losing her all over again.
The law currently requires the automatic protection of identity of anyone who is the subject of a suppression order by the Coroner’s Court.
Yet the girl’s mother wants her name to be made public in an effort to share her daughter’s life and communicate openly about the issues facing young people.
“I have been quite open about mental health issues since I lost my daughter and I want to be able to continue doing that; I haven’t been able to speak to the media or anyone,” she said.
