McGuire wasn’t asked to step aside as Pies president

AFL chief Gillon McLachlan has told a packed media conference, he did not ask Eddie McGuire to stand down as Collingwood President over his controversial comments about football writer Caroline Wilson.
McGuire suggested he would pay money to see Wilson ne held under the iced water if she took part in next year’s Freeze for MND event at the MCG, an annual fundraiser for motor neuron disease.
The TV commentator defended his comments, claiming they were supposed to be humourous and were made without any malice.
A similar comment was also made by 3AW Football commentator Tony Shaw during last Monday’s broadcast, while he was on with Wilson and Dwayne Russell.
Gary Adshead spoke to communications expert Mike Irving, who believes the comments made by McGuire and Shaw are ‘ultimately the behaviour of a toxic person’.
